October in Orange County means cooler evenings, pumpkins, costumes, glowing lights, and plenty of family-friendly events happening throughout the area.
If you're looking for something festive to do with the family this fall, several local communities are hosting Halloween and harvest celebrations over the next few weeks. From an evening inside one of Orange County's historic parks to trunk-or-treating and fall activities in Irvine, here are a few events to put on your calendar.
Fall-O-Ween at Heritage Hill Historical Park
One of the standout family events this October is Fall-O-Ween at Heritage Hill Historical Park in Lake Forest.
The historic grounds will be transformed for two weekends of fall and Halloween festivities, with decorated buildings and grounds, seasonal photo opportunities, a straw maze, and a scavenger hunt where kids can collect goodies along the way.
2026 Fall-O-Ween Details
Dates: October 16–18 and October 23–25, 2026
Time: 4:30–8:30 p.m.
Location: Heritage Hill Historical Park
Address: 25151 Serrano Road, Lake Forest, CA
Admission: Free
One of the best parts of this event is that it offers a Halloween atmosphere without being overly scary, making it a good option for families with younger children.
Heritage Hill itself also gives the event a different feel from your typical parking-lot Halloween festival. The historic buildings, mature trees, decorations, and evening lighting create a unique backdrop for photos and a fun way to experience one of Lake Forest's local landmarks.
Costumes are encouraged, so this can also be a good opportunity for kids to get an extra night of use out of their Halloween costumes before October 31.
Tustin Halloween Howl
Another event to keep on your radar is the Tustin Halloween Howl, scheduled to take place at the Clifton C. Miller Community Center.
The event is expected to include games, candy, inflatables, a costume contest, trunk-or-treat activities, and a Halloween parade.
Expected 2026 Event Details
Date: Friday, October 30, 2026
Time: 4:00–7:00 p.m.
Location: Clifton C. Miller Community Center
Address: 300 Centennial Way, Tustin, CA
Because the 2026 date and time have been reported through local event listings but were not yet confirmed through a current City of Tustin event page at the time of writing, I recommend checking with the City of Tustin before making plans.
If confirmed, this should be a convenient option for families looking for something festive the night before Halloween.
Fall Fun Is Still Going at Tanaka Farms
If you're looking for something you can do during the daytime, Tanaka Farms in Irvine is continuing its Fall Harvest Festival through the beginning of November.
The festival runs from September 12 through November 1, 2026, giving families several more weeks to enjoy seasonal activities.
Tanaka Farms Fall Harvest Festival Details
Dates: September 12–November 1, 2026
Hours: 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Location: Tanaka Farms
Address: 5380¾ University Drive, Irvine, CA
Admission: Tickets are required for festival activities.
Tanaka Farms is already one of Orange County's most popular fall destinations, so this is a good option if you want a daytime experience rather than an evening Halloween event.
It can also pair well with one of the nighttime events above—visit the farm during the day and save Heritage Hill or another community event for the evening.
Make the Most of October in Orange County
One of the best things about fall in Orange County is the variety of events available. You don't necessarily have to drive to a major theme park or spend a lot of money to create a fun Halloween weekend.
For a free evening event with a unique setting, Fall-O-Ween at Heritage Hill is probably the one I'd put at the top of the list.
If you're closer to Tustin, keep an eye on the Halloween Howl as October 30 approaches. And if you prefer pumpkins, farm activities, and daytime fall fun, Tanaka Farms remains an easy Irvine option through November 1.
As always, event schedules can change, so check with the event organizer before heading out.
Whether you live in Irvine, Lake Forest, Tustin, or elsewhere in Orange County, there are plenty of opportunities to get outside, spend time with family, and enjoy the Halloween season close to home.
